ANTIQUITY. BYZANTINE. Gilt brass book clasp. Circa 10th-12th century AD. Height 63mm. An open-work gilt brass plaque, probably the clasp for a book of Gospels. A standing figure of a saint holding the Gospels set within an open scroll-work vine. Vine motif repeated on the solid apex of the clasp. Pierced several times for attachment to book cover. Fine condition, gilding a little worn. ($200)
