JUSTINIAN I. 527-565 AD. Æ Half Follis (3.18 gm). Salona mint. Struck 552-565 AD. Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Large K. DOC I 360; MIB I 250; SB 331. VF, dusty olive green patina. ($150)

The mint of Salona operated briefly in the 550's, as the city served as a staging area for troops on the way to Italy in the course of Justinian's grand plan of re-conquest. None of the Salona coins bears a mintmark, but site finds have supported the attribution.
