SCOTLAND. James VI (James I of England). 1567-1603. 19th century electrotype Medallion (39mm, 212.48 gm). Marriage issue. Dated 1590. (crown)IACOBVS 6 D G R SCOTORVM, laureate and armored bust right / (rosette)NEMO ME IMPVNE LACESSET 1590, crowned thistles flanked by crowned I and R. RR stamped on edge. Hawkins 137 (Elizabeth I). Good VF, irregular patina, dark spot on reverse.

This electrotype was produced by Robert Ready, conservator at the British Museum from 1858, and succeded by his sons through the 1930's. The British Museum electrotypes are the only way to acquire many rare early medals of England and Scotland.
