KINGS of MACEDON. Perseus. 179-168 BC. AR Drachm (3.92 gm, 12h). Pella or Amphipolis mint; AY-, mintmaster. Struck circa 171-168 BC. Diademed head right / BASILEWS PERSEWS, harpa; mintmaster's monogram to lower left, control marks above (QS monogram) and below right (AN(?) monogram); all within oak wreath, star to left. Cf. Mamroth, Perseus 19by (same dies as plate coin); AMNG III 5 var. (mintmaster & control marks); SNG Alpha Bank -; SNG München -. Good VF, a little overcleaned, hairline flan crack. Very rare. ($1000)
