Head of Hermes facing slightly left, with long hair and wearing petasos ornamented with a row of beads / AINION, goat standing right; vertical thunderbolt to right. May, Ainos, Group LXIV, - (unlisted symbol and dies); AMNG II -; BMC Thrace -; SNG Copenhagen -. EF. Excellent strike and metal. Apparently unique. ($20,000)

Ex Münzen und Medaillen 81 (18-19 September 1995), lot 46 (expertly conserved since).

The style of the obverse type (particularly the "rugged" features and muscular neck), the wide circular form of the reverse die, and the style of the goat, place this coin among the final issues of tetradrachms at Ainos.

See lot 240 for more information on the coinage of Ainos.
