DIVUS PERTINAX. Died 193 AD. Æ Sestertius (21.30 gm, 11h). Struck under Septimius Severus, 193 AD. DIVVS PERT PIVS PATER, bare-headed and draped bust right / CONSE-CRATIO, S C in exergue, four-tiered funeral pyre: lowest tier garlanded, middle two tiers arched with statues; uppermost tier draped, flanked by torches, and surmounted by triumphal quadriga. RIC IV 660C (Septimius Severus); Banti 7; BMCRE 480 (Wars of the Succession); Cohen 12. VF, black surfaces with traces of brown, light porosity, minor enhancement in hair. Very rare. ($5000)
