PONTOS, Amisos. Circa 109-89 BC. Æ 31mm (19.76 gm). Helmeted head of Athena right / Perseus standing facing, holding harpa and Medusa's head; Medusa's body at his feet, monograms flanking him. Cf. De Callataÿ pl. 48, F var. (monograms); RG 17; SNG Copenhagen 137; SNG BM Black Sea 1167. Good VF, dark gray-green patina, adjustment marks on both sides). ($200)

Traditionally dated to the period of the First Mithradatic War, this issue has been placed by De Callataÿ in the period of Mithradates VI's expansion of Pontic influence in Asia Minor prior to that conflict.
