Legend with Shah Jahan's titles within square; AH date in left margin / Legend with titles and regnal year within square; mint in left margin. KM 260.15; Wright -; Hull 1574. Near EF. ($500)

Shah Jahan was deposed and imprisoned by his scheming son Aurangzeb in 1658, after Aurangzeb defeated the heir apparent Dara Sikuh at the battle of Samugarh. Despite his fall from power, coins were struck in his name for at least two years after his incarceration at Agra. Shah Jahan died a prisoner in 1666.
