YORK. Edward IV. First reign, 1461-1470. AV Ryal ­ Rose Noble (7.74 gm, 2h). Light coinage, Type VI, 1465-1466. London mint, mm: sun. Edward standing facing, holding sword and arms in ship, E on banner at stern, rose on hull; quatrefoil at end of legend / Rose over sun with fleurs, crowns, and lions; small trefoils in spandrels. Blunt & Whitton p. 171, Type VI, 2a = H. Montagu, "Find of Coins at Fischenich, near Cologne, with Observations on Flemish Imitations of English Nobles," NumChron 1893, pl. III, 4 (same obv. die); Schneider -; North 1549; SCBC 1950. VF, light earthen encrustation, some flatness. Extremely rare with quatrefoil in obverse legend. ($1000)
