NERO. 54-68 AD. Æ Sestertius (27.19 g, 6h). Lugdunum (Lyon) mint. Struck 67 AD. Laureate head right; globe at point of bust / Roma seated left on cuirass, holding Victory and parazonium, resting arm on shields set on helmet. RIC I -; RIC I (1st ed.) 215 = Lyon 268 = WCN 471; BMCRE -; Cohen -. Good VF, river patina, orichalcum color with patchy black encrustation. Superior treatment of the later Nero portrait. Extremely rare, only one specimen recorded (in Oxford). ($2000)
