BOIOTIA, Thebes. Circa 425-395 BC. AR Stater (12.10 g). Early style. Boiotian shield, club across upper half / Bearded head of Dionysos right, wearing ivy wreath; Q-[E] across lower field; all within square incuse. Myron Hoard pl. B, 1-2; BMC p. 75, 59; SNG Manchester 924. Fine, light grey tone, obverse off centre. ($500)

An unusually large reverse die which fortunately fits perfectly in the larger than ususal flan. This Dionysos has a somber, almost regal, look about him.
