BOIOTIA, Thebes. Circa 405-395 BC. AR Tetartemorion (0.25 g). Boiotian shield / Grape bunch on vine; Q-H across upper field; all within incuse concave circle. Bérend, Réflexions 36 (this coin). Superb EF, wonderful cabinet tone. Exceptional and probably unique. ($500)

The legend on this coin is very important as it serves to prove two points. Firstly that the E and the H were interchangeable at that time (the first few years of the 4th century) and secondly that all the grapes reverse fractions (lots 462 to 470) are in fact bearing the ethnic of Thebes and not the first two letters of a magistrate's name.
