BOIOTIA, Federal Coinage. Circa 225-171 BC. AR Drachm (4.94 g, 2h). Laureate head of Poseidon right, border of dots / Nike standing left, resting on trident(?) and holding wreath; BOIWTWN downward on left; no symbol or monogram in fields. Cf. BMC p. 42, 100; cf. E. Vlachogianni, "A hoard of coins from Thebes," NomKhron 19 (2000), pp. 57, 103 and p. 78 (pl. I), 451, 452, and 454. Good VF, medium grey tone, light porosity. ($300)

As far as can be seen there is no die linking between this coin and the hoard coins mentioned above but it is obvious that they belong to the same group, probably the last issue of the mint. There are traces of an undertype on the reverse fields of our coin which means that the die has been reworked from an earlier type; probably an attempt to erase symbols or monograms and produce a final issue with no connections to mint officials or sponsors.
