BOIOTIA, Tanagra. 500-480 BC. AR Drachm (5.99 g). Boiotian shield, horizontal T facing inward in one opening, A in the other / Square incuse with anticlockwise mill-sail pattern. Head, Boeotia p. 12, pl. I, 3 = BMC 1, pl. IX, 6 = Traité I 1356; SNG Fitzwilliam 2883; Asyut 248 corr. (this coin). VF, minor obverse roughness. ($300)

Ex Asyut Hoard, 248.

The casts and the weights for the publication of the hoard were taken before the coins were cleaned (Asyut p. 23). During cleaning, this coin lost 0.11 g. from its uncleaned weight. Cleaning revealed that one of the shield openings had an A in it and not a T as was thought by the Asyut cataloguer.
