BOIOTIA, Tanagra. Early-mid 4th century BC. Lot of two AR Obols. Both coins: Boiotian shield / Forepart of horse right; TA below. Varieties: (a) 0.74 g. Shield of distinctive shape / All within incuse flat circle (the flan too small for incuse to form). Head, Boeotia p. 52 // (b) 0.63 g. On reverse, horse's forepart shows only head, neck, and front legs; all within incuse flat circle with curved edge. Head, Boeotia p. 52. Both coins Fine, and scarce varieties. Two (2) coins in lot. ($150)

Coin (b) seems to have a stylistic affinity with lot 277 above and looks like a further development of this unusual and rarely encountered in the series "horse bust".
