BOIOTIA, Thebes. Circa 450-440 BC. AR Stater (12.01 g). Boiotian shield / Amphora; (archaic Q)-E across field; all within square incuse. Head, Boeotia p. 29, pl. II, 7 = BMC p. 70, 26; Myron Hoard pl. A, 24 (same rev. die); Weber 3249 (this coin). Good VF, well centered on a large flan, a few small scratches on shield. ($1000)

Ex Elisabeth Washburn King Collection (Christie's New York 11 December 1992), lot 692; Sir Hermann Weber Collection, 3249.

This is a numismatically important coin because it links the small, archaic style shield with the reverses featuring the large square incuse with the amphora.
