From the Dr. Thomas Dailey Collection.

The Earl of Northumberland distributed £100 worth of specially ordered shillings among friends and colleagues upon his appointment as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland in 1763. The 2000 coins probably did not circulate, but were held as mementos. This specimen seems to be struck from a distinctive obverse die differing from other published specimens, with the "I" of DEI appearing a numeral "1" punch, although not the same as the "J" form as used in dates of the period.
