154, Lot: 97. Estimate $100.
Sold for $62. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

BAKTRIA, Indo-Greek Kingdom. Strato II, with Strato Philopator. Circa 25 BC. AR Drachm (17mm, 2.37 g, 2h). Older diademed bust right / Athena Alkidemos advancing left; Kharosthi letter (?) to left, monogram to right. Bopearchchi Série 6 var; SNG ANS -; MIG -. VF, some porosity.

All the published drachms of Strato II and Strato Philipator (later Strato III) are marked with Kharosthi letters. New specimens are appearing with the monogram used on the sole reign drachms of Strato II, and these probably represent a transitional issue. It is uncertain whether the three-legged symbol in the left field is intended as a field mark, or is simply the end of Athena’s cloak.
