ROMAN. Provincial. Lot of ten (10) River-god themed provincial coins, primarily Asia Minor. Includes:

1) IONIA, Ephesus. Gallienus. AD 253-268. Æ (20mm, 4.12 g, 7h). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / River-god Marnas reclining, holding reed and resting elbow on urn from which water flows. Karwiese, MvE 5, 1141 (V74/R111); SNG Copenhagen 529. Earthen green patina, roughness. Good Fine.

2) ISLANDS off IONIA, Samos. Gallienus. AD 253-268. Æ (22mm, 4.93 g, 6h). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / River-god Imbrasos reclining left, holding reed and cornucopia, resting elbow on urn from which water flows. BMC 386; SNG von Aulock 8032. Rough green-brown patina, minor deposits. Good Fine. Rare.

3) LYDIA, Blaundus. temp. Marcus Aurelius. AD 161-180. Æ (25.5mm, 10.3 g, 12h). Struck circa AD 169-175. Head of youthful Demos right / River-god Hippourios reclining left, holding reed and cornucopia, resting elbow on urn from which water flows. Matern 61; Kurth 70; RPC IV.2 Online 2821. Red-brown surfaces, small pits. Near Fine.

4) LYDIA, Sardis. Severan Era. AD 193-235. Æ (22mm, 5.02 g, 6h). Draped bust of Mên Askenos right, wearing Phrygian cap, crescent on shoulders / River-god Hermos reclining left, holding reed and cornucopia, resting elbow on urn from which water flows. Hochard 2196 (D364/R763); Kurth 334-5; SNG Copenhagen 511. Light green patina, some roughness. Fine.

5) LYDIA, Silandus. Antoninine Era. AD 138-192. Æ (18.5mm, 5.48 g, 12h). Bearded head of Herakles right / River-god Hermos reclining left, holding reed and resting elbow on urn from which water flows. Hochard 2268 (D35/R– [unrecorded rev. die]); Kurth 34; RPC IV.2 Online 3018. Brown patina, pitting, scratches. Near VF.

6) PHRYGIA, Apameia. Severan Era. AD 193-235. Æ (14mm, 2.70 g, 6h). Helmeted bust of Athena right, wearing aegis / River-god Maiandros reclining left, holding reed and cornucopia, resting elbow on urn from which water flows. BMC 116; SNG München 132. Earthen red-brown patina, light roughness. Near VF.

7) PHRYGIA, Laodicea ad Lycum. Late 2nd-early 3rd century AD. Æ (15mm, 2.88 g, 6h). Diademed head of Demos right / The river Lykos, as a wolf, seated right, with his forepaw on an inverted urn out of which water flows. BMC 112-3; SNG München 368. Red-brown surfaces, porosity. Good Fine. Rare.

8) PHRYGIA, Philomelium. Gordian III. AD 238-244. Æ (23.5mm, 6.52 g, 7h). Cornelius Alexandros, magistrate. Laureate head right / River-god Gallos reclining left, holding cornucopia and resting elbow on urn from which water flows; below, reed. RPC VII.1 807.1; BMC 29. Rough green and brown patina, deposits. Near Fine. Rare.

9) EGYPT, Alexandria. Hadrian. AD 117-138. Æ Drachm (34mm, 20.96 g, 11h). Dated RY 20 (AD 135/6). Laureate head right / Bust of Nilus right, crowned with taenia and lotus buds, slight drapery on far shoulder; before, cornucopia at shoulder; L K (date) across field. Köln –; Dattari (Savio) –; K&G –; RPC III 6101; Emmett 1012.20 (R5). Green-brown patina, roughness, red deposits. Reverse heavily tooled, date recarved and probably not originally year 20. Near Fine. Extremely rare if originally year 20.

10) EGYPT, Alexandria. Antoninus Pius. AD 138-161. Æ Drachm (31mm, 17.28 g, 12h). Dated RY 22 (AD 158/9). Laureate head right, traces of drapery on left shoulder / Bust of Nilus right, crowned with taenia and lotus buds, slight drapery on far shoulder; reed behind right shoulder, cornucopia before from which emerges a Genius holding a wreath; L K B (date) across upper field. Köln 1833-5; Dattari (Savio) 2725; K&G 35.799; RPC IV.4 Online 2102; Emmett 1614.22. Brown surfaces, pitting. Fine. For Lot: Near Fine-Fine. LOT SOLD AS IS, NO RETURNS. Ten (10) coins in lot.
