Manuel I Comnenus. 1143-1180. EL Aspron Trachy (32.5mm, 4.29 g, 6h). Thessalonica mint. Struck circa 1160-circa 1167. The Theotokos enthroned facing, holding head of Holy Infant on lap / Facing figures of Manuel, wearing crown and jeweled chlamys, holding akakia, and St. Demetrius, nimbate and wearing military attire, resting hand on chest, standing facing, both holding labarum between them. DOC 9; SB 1974; CLBC 4.2.6. Lightly toned and lustrous, graffiti, minor lamination error, light deposits. Near EF. Well struck for issue.
