SELEUCIS and PIERIA, Antioch. Nerva. AD 96-98. AR Tetradrachm (26mm, 10.29 g, 11h). Dated “New Holy Year” 2 (AD 97/8). Laureate bust right, wearing aegis on shoulder / Eagle standing right on thunderbolt, with wings displayed; palm frond to right; B (date) in upper right field. McAlee 420; RPC II 3477; Prieur 150. Toned, areas of roughness, some scratches. Good VF.

From the Richard Basler Collection.

All of Nerva's year 2 tetradrachms from Antioch include the title Germanicus, which he received around November AD 97. Since he died just a few months later at the end of January 98, all coins of this date are rare, with Prieur knowing of only 8 specimens at the time of his publication, compared to 87 for year 1.

Closing Date and Time: 19 October 2022 at 13:44:40 ET.

All winning bids are subject to an 20% buyer’s fee.
