215, Lot: 473. Estimate $100.
Sold for $560. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Geta. AD 209-211. AR Denarius (19mm, 3.11 g, 12h). Rome mint. Struck circa AD 210. Laureate bust right / Victory seated left on shields, holding shield on right knee and palm. RIC -; RSC -; BMCRE -. Good VF, toned.

From the J.S. Vogelaar Collection.

This reverse type is unpublished in the standard references for denarii of Geta. It is known, however, for aurei of Caracalla (RIC IV 174). As the reverse die is worn, it is possible that the minters felt the die was too worn to continue producing aurei, and so decided to use it on denarii.
