Serving as the president to the Royal Numismatic Society for nearly 35 years, Sir John Evans was also a prominent antiquarian and author, as well as a pioneering figure in the fields of prehistoric archaeology and geology. Continuing his legacy today, the Ashmolean Museum instituted the Sir John Evans Centenary Project in 2003, formally launching a corresponding website on the one-hundredth anniversary of his birth in 2008. The project fully catalogs his collection and provides an examination of the numerous intellectual networks of which he was a part.
