THESSALY, Krannon. 3rd century BC or later. Æ Chalkous (16mm, 3.72 g, 12h). Laureate head of Zeus or Poseidon right / KPANNOYNIOYN, hydria flanked by two crows perched on cart wheels. Rogers 203, fig. 85 corr. (monogram below wheels in illustration, but not noted in text); BCD Thessaly II 120.2 (no monogram); BCD Thessaly I 1088. VF, dark green patina.

From the BCD Collection.

This issue is traditionally assigned to the 3rd century BC. It was noted in BCD Thessaly I, however, that the heads on the obverse of this issue bear a strong resemblance to the heads of Zeus found on coins of the Achaean League from the 2nd century.
