Domitian. As Caesar, AD 69-81. AR Denarius (20mm, 3.11 g, 6h). Rome mint. Struck under Vespasian, AD 73-75. Laureate head right / Domitian on horseback, rearing left, raising hand and holding carnyx(?). RIC II 680 (Vespasian); RSC 664. VF, light roughness.
The item Domitian is holding is described in RIC as a scepter and in RSC as a scepter surmounted by human head. On this coin it looks more like a carnyx, which was a trumpet used in the Roman army.
