334, Lot: 531. Estimate $500.
Sold for $1100. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Bronze spearhead. Mycenaean, Late Helladic Period, 1400-1100 BC. A cast spearhead with central ridge and three piercings at butt of the blade. Length: 14.6cm. Tip broken, no evidence of spear cup for wooden shaft, piercings at the butt of the blade are compromised. Green patina. Rare.

The tip appears to have been broken in antiquity, as the area is patinated. The collar was probably a separate piece of metal that was attached at the lower holes that pierce the blade. This is supported by other examples of Late Helladic Period weapons, particularly daggers, that show a high sheathing around the base of the blade.
