A number of inscriptions record the distinguished career of Amenhotep, otherwise known as Huy, son of Hapu and Lady Itu, who held many important offices under the Pharaoh Amenhotep III. He served as a royal scribe, priest and overseer of building projects, including the Colossi of Memnon. A cult developed around Huy following his death and over time the royal servant garnered a legendary reputation for his wisdom. His cult is attested as late as the Ptolemaic Period.
