396, Lot: 470. Estimate $100.
Sold for $75. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

LOCAL ISSUES, Gandhara. Circa 4th century AD. Æ (14mm, 3.19 g, 12h). Tamgha or Brahmi monogram / Vasudeva-style tamgha. Cf. Vondrovec GC-G 79 (for obv.); cf. MK 1020 (for rev.); CNG E-268, lot 172; Zeno 100111 = CNG E-257, lot 180. VF, brown patina.

By virtue of the reverse tamgha, this type has been associated with one of the Kushan Vasudevas (MK 1020), since the obverse of the MK coin has vasu in Brahmi on the obverse. The obverse of the present coin is similar to Gandharan bronzes with similar designs, a region whose coinage was diverse and modeled on neighboring types.
