KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’. 336-323 BC. AR Drachm (16.5mm, 4.26 g, 12h). Sardes mint. Struck under Menander, circa 324/3 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; rose in left field; below throne, globule above strut, monogram below. Price 2555; ADM I Series IX. VF. Very rare issue, only two in Pella (= the two listed in ADM), one in CoinArchives.

This issue is obverse die linked to Price 2553. While the latter issue is very common, one of the largest at Sardes, the present issue is very rare, and ADM speculates that it represents a transitional issue a the start of Series IX.
