THESSALY, Larissa. Circa 400-370 BC. AR Obol (10.5mm, 0.81 g, 12h). Head of the nymph Larissa facing slightly left / ΛAPIΣ, horse grazing left; all within incuse square. BCD Thessaly II 223 (same rev. die; hammer $2500); HGC 4, 505. VF, porous surfaces. Extremely rare (4th known?).

A note from BCD from the Triton sale: “Early facing head obols must have been struck in very limited quantities, mainly because the “horse/nymph” obols were still in circulation and readily accepted in the local markets and everywhere else.”
