KINGS of PARTHIA. Artabanos IV. 80-90 AD. Æ Chalkos (12mm, 1.09 gm). Diademed bust left; long rectangular beard, hair straight, earring visible, no wart / Three-quarter figure of Tyche right, holding palm. Sellwood 74.9 (Artabanos III); Shore 605 (Artabanos III); BMC Parthia pg. 170, 78 (Gotarzes). VF, brown patina.

From the Bellaria Collection. Ex Peus 325 (15-16 June 1989), lot 1036 (part of).

Very little is known of Artabanos IV beyond the fact that he apparently was a contender for the Parthian throne circa 80 AD. His portrait shares a number of peculiarities found on the coinage of Artabanos III; perhaps indicative of a familial relationship between the two.
