Anonymous. 214-212 BC. Æ Uncia (19mm, 6.22 gm). Sicilian mint. Helmeted head of Mars right; pellet behind / Prow of galley right; ROMA and grain ear above, pellet below. Crawford 42/4; Sydenham -; BMCRR -; Hersh, "Some Additional Roman Republican Overstrikes," in ANSMN 32, 16s (this coin). VF, dark green to almost black patina. Overstruck on a Syracusan Æ of Hieron II (Crawford O/S 23), with a portion of the trident and a dolphin visible above Roma's head. Interesting.
