TITUS. 79-81 AD. AR Cistophoric Tetradrachm (26mm, 10.74 g). Ephesus (or Rome) mint. Struck 81 AD. Laureate head right / Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus containing statues of Juno, Jupiter and Minerva; pediment decorated with an anguipede monster, facing quadriga at apex of roof. RIC II -; RPC II 860; RSC -. Near VF. Very rare.

The Capitoline Temple of Jupiter was damaged in the great fire of 80 AD. Titus advertises here his beginning of its reconstruction. Domitian continued the type and the reconstruction was completed and the temple inaugurated during his reign.
