Phoenician galley left; B and ||| (in Phoenician) above, waves below / Persian king or hero, holding dagger, standing right, fighting lion standing left on its hind legs; T‘ (in Phoenician) between; all within incuse square. E&E-S Group IV.3.2.c. var. (no B preceding date); HGC 10, 257 var. (same); DCA2 838 var. (same). Faintly toned, some weakness to strike on obverse. VF. Unpublished variety.

A Phoenician bet preceding the date on the obverse is commonly found on the shekels of Mazaios, whose coinage precedes and succeeds that of Tennes at Sidon, but this feature is not known on his sixteenth shekels, nor is it found on any of the year 1 or 2 sixteenths of Tennes. Thus, its appearance here is remarkable.
