SICILY, Panormos(?). Late 2nd century BC. Æ (16mm, 3.46 g, 10h). Diademed and bearded head right / Warrior standing left, holding spear and patera. Bahrfeldt Group II, unlisted variety; BAR –; CNS 206 lv 2; HGC 2, –; SNG Copenhagen 535; SNG Morcom –. Dark brown patina. VF. A well preserved example.

Calciati concluded that the letters on the reverse of this series are meaningless, and thus they are “barbarous issues.” Accordingly, BAR and others do not list them among the coins of Panormos, but the introduction to Panormos in RPC I retains them at that city, and discusses the chronology of the series.
