POTTERY. Magna Graecia. 6th-4th Cent. BCE. (70 mm tall x 135 mm wide). A simple molded Redware bowl with minor embellishments both on exterior and interior of the bowl. Black patches present over majority of the bowl, burned on from a fire that scorched the bowl. The result is a spectacular marbled red and black surface over the whole piece. Externally, the bowl has a central raised line, bordered by a thick line above and a band with a running pattern of circles and solid shapes, separated by vertical lines. Internally, more molded embellishments present: a central rosette surrounded by wavy vine pattern. Lip is bordered with a band of running circles, shapes and lines per exterior. A truly beautiful bowl.. A couple minor chips at rim. Intact. |
