POTTERY. Magna Graecia. 6th-4th Cent. BCE. (280 mm wide x 190 mm tall). An Apulian covered kylix with a tapered foot and long stem supports a wide squat bowl with handles on either side. Atop, a painted lid featuring a seated bejeweled Lady of Fashion. In her right hand, she holds a cake of sorts, in her left hand, a bunch of grapes. Before her, resting on her lap is a large fan, to the right, resting on her arm, a distaff. On the other side of the lid, a winged Nike kneels, her wings extended behind. She holds a plate of wheat with the one hand, the other holds grapes resting on the ground. Before her, an altar. Between the figures on either side, large rosettes. Patina present. Top and base were produced for separate pieces based on patina (meaning they were not buried together). They however mate nicely and are probably from the same workshop.

From the Ramrodivs Collection.
