ATTICA, Athens. Circa 165-42 BC. AR Tetradrachm (28.5mm, 16.73 g, 12h). New Style coinage. Eumareides, Kleomen–, and Ask–, magistrates. Struck 113/2 BC. Head of Athena Parthenos right, wearing single-pendant earring and triple crested Attic helmet decorated with Pegasos and floral pattern / Owl standing right, head facing, on amphora; magistrates’ names across field; to right, Tritpolemos driving biga of serpents left; retrograde Z on amphora, ΣΦ below; all within wreath. Thompson 679 var. (same obv. die, different control marks and third magistrate); HGC 4, 1602. Minor die wear on obverse. Good VF.

This variety was apparently unknown to Thompson. Thompson 677e has the same third magistrate and retrograde Z as the present coin, but has ΣΩ below the amphora. All examples with ΣΦ that were known were paired with obverse die 679.
