Latin Rulers of Constantinople. 1204-1261. Æ Tetarteron(?) (20mm, 2.06 g, 5h). Plain cross set on base / Emperor standing facing holding spear and globus cruciger. Bendall, “Some Notes on Late Byzantine Coinage,” in NumCirc CX.4 (August 2002), fig. 8 (this coin); cf. DOC 23; cf. CLBC 11.22.1-3 cf. SB 2043 and 2054 (for trachea, all with obv. legend). Brown patina. VF/F.

From the collection of Simon Bendall.

While the basic type is known for trachea in large and small modules, this coin is struck on a thick and fairly flat flan, suggesting it may be a rare tetarteron.

Closing Date and Time: 29 July 2020 at 12:18:20 ET.

All winning bids are subject to an 18% buyer’s fee.
