Bust of Christ Pantokrator / Manuel I standing facing, holding labarum and globus cruciger. DOC 12 (Manuel Il for rev. of official type); cf. SB 1964-5 (Manuel I; same); CLBC 11.Local issue.2 = CNG E-84, lot 212 (there as a Bulgarian imitation; issue in bronze or baser silver); S. Bendall, “A Latin Coinage for Thesssalonica?,” in NumCirc CV.3 (April 1997), 2e (this coin). Toned, cleaning scratches, clipped. VF. Rare.

Bendall discounts the proposed attribution to Thessalonica, proposing a possible origin in modern-day Bulgaria, while the authors of CLBC suggest a mint in Asia Minor.
