The Triumvirs. Octavian. Spring-early summer 36 BC. AR Denarius (18.5mm, 3.80 g, 6h). Countermarked during time of Vespasian. Southern or central Italian mint. Bareheaded and bearded head right; c/m: MP VES (retrograde and ligate) in incuse rectangle / Tetrastyle temple of Divus Julius: statue of Julius Caesar as augur standing within temple; DIV[O IVL] on architrave, star within pediment, figures along roof line; lighted altar to left. Host coin: Crawford 540/2; CRI 315; Sydenham 1338; RSC 90 (Augustus); RBW 1829; for c/m: Howgego 839 and Pangerl 100. A few light marks and scratches, flan slightly bent from countermark. Fine. C/m: VF.
