Elagabalus. AD 218-222. AR Denarius (19.5mm, 2.97 g, 5h). Uncertain eastern mint. Struck AD 218-219. ANTONINVS PIVS FEL AVG, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / FELICITAS AVG, Felicitas standing left, holding caduceus and cornucopia. RIC IV 187A var. (bust type); Thirion 346 var. (same); BMCRE p. 573, †; RSC 26b var. (same). Lightly toned. Near EF. Very rare.

From the Richard McAlee Collection. Ex Numismatik Naumann 46 (11 September 2016), lot 696.

As neither RIC, Thirion, nor RSC were able to trace an example, while BMCRE cites the one in the G.A. Arnold Collection (Glendining, 21 November 1984, lot 258), it is possible that all in fact refer to this bust type.

Closing Date and Time: 26 August 2020 at 11:05:40 ET.

All winning bids are subject to an 18% buyer’s fee.
