KINGS of MACEDON. Demetrios I Poliorketes. 306-283 BC. AR Tetradrachm (26mm, 16.99 g, 5h). In the name and types of Alexander III. Uncertain mint in western Asia Minor. Struck circa 310-275 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; in left field, head of ram left. Newell 63 (obv. die LVI); Price 835. Lightly toned, light porosity, some die wear on obverse. Good VF.

Although Price attributed this issue to an uncertain mint in Greece or Macedon, its style and die links to issues of Demetrios I Poliorketes (cf. Newell 63 and 64) strongly argue for a mint in western Asia Minor, which is the location chosen by the authors of Meydancikkale. Also, the recorded hoards with specimens of this type, and those with the same obverse die in the name of Demetrios, have been found in Asia Minor.
