Cn. Blasio Cn.f. 112-111 BC. AR Denarius (17.5mm, 3.88 g, 12h). Rome mint. Helmeted male head right (of Mars, Scipio Africanus, or Blasio?); wreath behind / Jupiter standing slightly left between Juno and Minerva, the latter crowning Jupiter with wreath; Y between Jupiter and Minerva. Crawford 296/1e; Sydenham 561b; Cornelia 19; RBW 1136 var. (control symbol and letter). Toned with some light iridescence, reverse die rust. Good VF.

From the Andrew McCabe Collection, purchased from Baldwin’s. Ex Roma Numismatics.

Symbols wreath (obverse) / ϒ (reverse). I recently acquired this coin for its superb obverse portrait and unusually clear legend, and later realized I would prefer to have a complete obverse symbol, though I recognize the type rarely comes on a flan large enough to accommodate both a full symbol and full legend on the obverse. This is among the best portraits I’ve seen. [Andrew McCabe]
