Moneyer issues of Imperatorial Rome. M. Mettius. January 44 BC. AR Quinarius (14mm, 1.04 g, 12h). Rome mint. Head of Juno Sospita right, wearing goat skin headdress; coiled snake behind / Victory driving galloping biga right, holding whip and reins. Crawford 480/23; King 69; CRI 167; Sydenham 1058; Mettia 1; Type as RBW 1690. Toned, rough surfaces, small edge chip. Fine. Extremely rare, only four in CoinArchives.

From the Andrew McCabe Collection, purchased from London Ancient Coins.

A great rarity, this quinarius of Mettius undoubtedly pairs with the Mettius CAESAR DICT QVART denarius type – the first portrait coin of a living Roman – given that both share Juno Sospita types. [Andrew McCabe]
