SICILY, Syracuse. Hieron I. 478-466 BC. AR Tetradrachm (25mm, 17.38 g, 3h). Struck circa 478-475 BC. Charioteer, holding kentron in right hand, reins in both, driving slow quadriga right; above, Nike flying right, crowning horses with wreath held in both hands / Head of Arethousa right, wearing pearl tainia, single-pendant earring, and necklace; ΣVR-AKOΣIO-N and four dolphins around. Boehringer Series XIa, 207E.1 (V93/R139 – this coin, illustrated on p. 152); HGC 2, 1306. Lightly toned, minor die wear, indications of undertype on obverse. VF.
