CRETE, Aptera. Circa 280 BC. AR Stater (24mm, 11.36 g, 6h). Obverse die signed by the artist Pythodoros. Head of Artemis right, wearing ornate stephanos, solar-disk pendant earring with three drops, and pearl necklace; [A-ΠTEPAI]ΩN around, ΠYΘOΔΩPOY to right / The hero Apteros-Ptoloioikos, wearing crested helmet and cuirass, holding shield and spear in left hand, right hand raised toward fir tree to left; ΠTO[ΛI]-OI-KOΣ around.
