PERSIA, Achaemenid Empire. temp. Xerxes I to Darios II. Circa 485-420 BC. AV Daric (14.5mm, 8.31 g). Lydo-Milesian standard. Sardes mint. Persian king or hero, wearing kidaris and kandys, quiver over shoulder, in kneeling-running stance right, holding spear in right hand, bow in left; cross below, no exergual line / Incuse punch. Carradice Type IIIb, Group A/B (pl. XIII, 27) var. (no cross, with exergual line); Meadows, Administration 321 var. (same); BMC Arabia pl. XXIV, 26 var. (same); CNG 105, lot 441 var. (cross on exergue line). Underlying luster. Good VF. Extremely rare variety.
