SICILY, Katane. Circa 186-170 BC. Æ (13mm, 2.41 g, 1h). Amphinomos advancing left, carrying his father / Anapias advancing left, carrying his mother. Casabona Period III, Phase I, 17c; BAR Issue 17; CNS 13; HGC 2, 630. Rough dark brown surfaces. Near VF.

Strabo (VI, 2:3) recounts the tale of Amphinomos and Anapias, who rescued their parents during an eruption of Mt. Aetna in the 5th century BC. The lava miraculously parted as it approached the brothers, allowing them to safely escape.
