Dually dated 1914 and 1916. GENERAL– V. FRANÇOIS, bust facing slightly left, wearing peaked cap / Soldiers advancing left toward the front lines; in six lines below, GUMBINNEN / TANNENBERG / MASURISCHE SEEN / GORLICE / RADYMNO / 1914–1916. Cf. Zetzmann 4119 (smaller module; silver). Attractive blackened surfaces, with great relief. Choice EF. Extremely large and rare format.

Born in Luxembourg to a noble Huguenot family, von François played a vital role in many of the early battles on the Eastern Front, including Tannenberg and the Masurian Lakes.
